This test checks how well a student classifies quadratics with the discriminant and solves them with complex solutions. Write exact answers, simplify every radical, and show the discriminant when it is used. No calculator is needed. The test is worth 20 points.
Standards: N-CN.C.7, A-REI.B.4b · Level: Grade 11 Algebra 2
Question 1 Discriminants (2 points)
For each equation, find the discriminant and state whether the solutions are two real, one real, or non-real.
- x2 − 10x + 25 = 0
- 2x2 + x − 15 = 0
- x2 − 2x + 8 = 0
- 4x2 + 4x + 5 = 0
